Shadow and Bone Leigh Bardugo

Heyyyyyyyy Guys,

Just read that in a really creepy voice. You creeped out? good we may continue. Today I'm going to be reviewing Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.
I always get really confused between Shadow and Bone and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Seriously this is about the fifth time I've either written; Daughter of Shadow and Bone or Shadow and Bone by Laini Taylor. I need help, they're just so similar! The titles not the books.

Anyway, just one more thing before we start the review, I don't promise that there won't be things to do with six of crows. Not major spoilers, just discussing setting and characters.

The book is mainly about this girl who discovers she has a very special power and she is thrust into the world of Grisha. Grisha, to me, are quite confusing. But, at the beginning of the book there is a run down, so I'm going to give you that run down;
1. Corporalki, under this falls the Healers and the Heartrenders.
2. Etherealki, under this falls the Squallers, Inferni and Tidemakers.
3. Materialki/Fabrikators, under this we have the Durasts and the Alkemi.
I know, it's painfully confusing. Not only is there a shit ton of different 'species' but they all have different skill sets, and they're really, like, not described.

OK, So although I kind of started off on a negative tone, I did actually really enjoy this book. I flew through it, seriously, I started last night and finished it this morning. It went in a direction I wasn't expecting, but it didn't overly shock me. The characters were interesting to read about but they didn't captivate me.

Because I'd read Six of Crows I expected to get an advantage towards learning about the world, but it was set on a different Continent and we didn't hear about the Six of Crows setting at all.

That's all I'm going to say for the non-spoilery section, I preferred Six of Crows but I was happy to read more about the Grisha world. I recommend you go pick it up, then come back so we can delve into the spoilery section. So, bye xx non-spoilers!!!

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

I know, OK! this is the third Colleen Hoover book in a row. I'm sorry!

Hey Guys,

So today I am going to be reviewing Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. This is my fourth Colleen Hoover book in a row, I've only reviewed three. I think someone needs to stage an intervention, like now.

Anyway, Maybe Someday. I don't think this is my favourite but it is up there at the top. I loved the love story in this, it didn't feel at all forced, and it didn't feel too insta-lovey. It begins with mutual attraction which grows into love.

It follows a girl named Sydney who's boyfriend cheats on her, and she moves in with this guy, Ridge. You can probably guess that, yes, they do fall in love but there are some difficult obstacles in the way. Like I say for all Colleen Hoover book's; it's better to go in without knowing much.

I really loved the characters in the book and what they contributed to the story. The tragic event was a bit different to he others I've read, because the effects can't really be rectified at all. And, it didn't link the two characters together in their past.

That all I can really say, I will see you soon, all you non-spoilerys. I recommend you go read it and come back so we can discuss all the spoilers, so go do that. Bye xx

Silhouette of a City

Hey Guys,

So if you're up to date with the going's on of my blog, then you will know that I took part in NaNoWriMo last year. NaNoWriMo is the most annoying thing to type, but it is also a writing challenge. It is where you have the entire month of November to write a story with 50,000 words or more.
I failed horrendously last year, I started to write a story called Silhouette of a City. I posted chapters one and two on my blog for you to read. I also said that even though NaNoWriMo was over, that I would continue to write it, and continue to post chapters. I have continued writing it, so well done me.

However, whilst reading through the chapters posted on my blog, I realised that they were under edited and kind of awful. So I went back and edited chapter one so it would be better, and now that is what I plan to share with you today. I will continue to update it, and just to specify it is no longer a NaNoWriMo project. Just a bit of fun. Enjoy...

Chapter 1

She dropped, well that would be a fancy word for what she did. She fell, off the roof of a warehouse after just escaping the clutches of the council. Lillian Winewood knew that within seconds the guards would be after her, but then again, she also knew that she could outrun them.
As Lillian fell through the darkness that was collecting around and within Greve, she thought to recall what the seekers had told her. And, as she hit the grimy streets, she tucked her legs up against her far too thin stomach and rolled into a standing position. She took no more than a second to regain her footing, and when she had she once again began to sprint through the repulsive city that was Greve. She clutched tightly at the bread she had stolen right from the middle of a council meeting.
It was when she heard a loud commotion behind her that she realised how fast her pursuers actually were and without giving it a second thought she ducked into an alley to wait out their hunt.
Would this actually work? She questioned. Then smiled maliciously; first at the noise of the council guards as they rushed past her; and then at their mistake in not considering which of many possible ways she could have gone. Again Lillian began to question herself about; was what she had achieved in snatching worth the risk that she piled on herself every day? But then righted her thinking by muttering under her breath
You have to, to survive, and any way they don’t call you the sphinx for nothing; they haven’t caught you once in three years she physically grinned at the prospect, three years! No one lasted that long; she was the best of her kind, the best of the Axos rogue. She hastily smoothed her features into an uninterested expression as she began to stroll casually down the alley.  The neutral facade turned grim as she made her way back to the hellhole that she had to call home. To her it felt more like a headquarters; she would check in, and out, and give in her daily prizes so they could be shared with the more helpless rogue.
                                                                      ______________

Lillian once again began to doubt the victory of her bread as she lifted the iron grill that closed off the sewer to public access - it obviously didn’t do a great job - and hopped down into the bowls of the city. When she had first learnt about this ‘sewer entrance’ she was adamant that she wasn’t going anywhere near it and would use the more innocent looking front entrance. She had, as well as most others, believed the sewer entrance would lead to an actual sewer. But, in fact, it lead to a ladder, and that ladder led to a room that would be seemingly empty unless you thought to remove yourself from that layer of sight and position yourself on the one under which case you would clearly be able to see a small group of people. That small group of people were in fact the rogue of Axos.
It was that very ladder that she made her way down before dropping into the room expecting, as normal, for it to be empty and it was until she ventured forward, and pushed onto the layer below. When that layer was gone the scene around her changed and burst into life. The room was alive with people bustling around doing their jobs as if nothing was amiss, but she knew better than to trust them. She pushed through yet another layer, exactly like her mother had been teaching her. That was until she was captured and killed for being different. You remove the layer in front of you and put it behind you meaning that you are now invisible or ‘clouded’ from others on different layers of sight.
After the second layer was fully behind and she opened her mind to see more, the bustling crowd disappeared as they remained on the previous layer. What stood in front of her was worse. Seventeen city guards stood there waiting for a moment like this to happen, that or waiting to attack when everyone was asleep. As quickly as she noticed them, they noticed her and began to move in set on claiming this one-off prize. Before she fully disappeared from their view, Lillian saw a sword pierce where she was standing but a few seconds ago.
When she popped back into existence on layer two, it took a few seconds for her to realise she was now without her bread; she had dropped it in her haste to get the barrier back in place. Not that it really mattered anymore.
She quickly congregated anyone who would listen to tell them about the situation.
“Ok, Ok how do I start” she began to mumble, her voice rose as she clearly spoke To the 15 people who had gathered “umm well right then, I was um checking the layer of sight beneath the one we declare ‘ours’ and well I was faced with 17 city guards waiting to ambush. They obviously can’t do it now while we are all up and active, I mean they would be stupid to try. Break into a room full of thieves, exiled warriors and in my case seekers, they would be crazy absolutely cr...”
“Get on with it” She allowed her eyes to skit over the crowd and with little effort located the owner of the yelling. David Marks, an idiot. The look she then gave him would have made the worst of the worst shudder even a little. She glared at him until he backed down mumbling apologies before she continued.
“I don’t think we need to evacuate or anything like that. This is no extremity it’s simply them waiting to ambush us so instead we ambush them.” Wheels turned in her head a s she formulated her plan.
“Anyone who would like to fight can stay here. We don’t need many, there were only seventeen guards seven or eight of us will do” She waved a hand in dismissal waiting to see who was left. No one, that’s who no one had taken her seriously and stayed behind to help her fight, no one. If that’s how they wanted to play it, they could die. See if she cared. Lillian turned to go and not a moment later seventeen city guards popped into existence and began to ambush.

I,m hoping you enjoyed that much better edited version of the first chapter, the suspense might be a bit better now that it is written better. But, then again it might not. I will see you soon xx

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Hey Guys,

Told you I'd see you soon. Today I'm reviewing Slammed by Colleen Hoover. Before we begin I would like to shout out the song I'm currently listening to; Stressed Out by 21 Pilots. Yeah ... um. Let's begin.

What immediately surprised me was the fact that the characters weren't distantly connected, but this is only book one in a series so more may be revealed. The way the two characters situations parallelled each other was funny in concept but sad to read about.
This book felt a bit darker because none of the characters we got close with had good pasts. The love story felt slightly insta-lovey but Colleen managed to make it work.

I loved the inclusion of all the poetry, because I really love writing and reading poetry. I also loved the little song quotes from the Avett Brothers, and the way it was included in the story.

I forgot to mention but the story is about a girl who moves from Texas to Michigan and meets this boy. Once again, though, it's better two go in not knowing much about it.

This is my favourite Colleen Hoover book that I've read so far, the characters felt so real and some of them were very relatable. Their emotions were so well portrayed and the book was over all fantastic, much like every other Colleen Hoover book.

This is where I leave you non-spoilery people, go buy the book and read it. Then come back and click Read More to read my spoilery thoughts on the book.

Most Anticipated Books of 2016

Hey guys,

I'm really sorry for the lack of main post last week, and the lack of posting in general. I honestly just didn't have the time to plan and write a main post, and I've fallen into a reading slump so that's why I haven't reviewed anything recently. I am as of right now reading yet another Colleen Hoover book and I will be reviewing it soon.
Now I'm also sorry that this post is so late, but I'm doing it now. I'm going to tell you what books I can't wait for in 2016.
Disclaimer, the release dates I will be telling you are as of right now, I don't promise that they will stay that date, and I'm sorry if it gets pushed back.
I'm going to count down from nearest to furthest release date...

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare - March 8th
This is the first book in Cassie's new series, The Dark Artifices. It is art of her Shadowhunter Chronicles. I'm really excited because all of Cassie's book are fabulous.

Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins - April 5th
This is the third book in Rachel's Rebel Belle trilogy and I'm really excited. I have not read Miss Mayhem (book two) because it hasn't come out in paper back yet, but it comes out in paperback on March 1st.

Warning!!!!!!!! Almost every book ever comes out on the third of May, so prepare for a date tangent...

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas - May 3rd
This is book two in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah. I'm really excited and interested to see how she's going to continue with the story.

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh - May 3rd
This is book two to The Wrath and the Dawn. I have yet to read The Wrath and the Dawn, but I've heard it's fabulous so I can't wait to read both.

The Crown by Keira Cass - May 3rd
This is book two to The Heir which is a spin off from the selection series. Although I didn't love the first book I still would like to find out how the story is going to end.

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan - May 3rd
This is the first book in Rick's new series; The Trials of Apollo. It's set in the Percy Jackson world so we might get some resolution over the un-end of Blood of Olympus.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover - August 2nd
I'm only really excited about this because it's by Colleen Hoover who is one of my all time favourite authors. I don't know much about it, but I'm sure it will be fantastic.

Blank of Blank by Sarah J Maas - September 6th
This is book 5 in the Throne of Glass series which is my favourite book series. It doesn't have a title yet but when the title is released I will be writing a post on my theories for the book, because I have a ton.

Crooked Kingdoms by Leigh Bardugo - September 22nd
This is the second and final book (I think) in the Six of Crows series. I was surprised by how much I loved this book. It was fantastic and I bet the sequel will be just as fabulous.

Those were all the books I'm anticipating in 2016. I can't wait for all of these lovelies to come out and take residence on my shelf. I will you soon with a review and I would to know which books you can't wait for.
I will see you soon,

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Hey Guys,

Today I'm going to be reviewing November 9. This was actually my second Colleen Hoover book, I didn't review the first one, and I want to read more. The way Colleen writes her characters and there stories make for a really interesting and different read.
Out of the books I've read by her I can say that her tone feels very sad and tragic on one page, but really funny and cute on the next. From reading about her other books I can also say that most of her books seem to contain some sort of tragic and sad event that changes one or usually both of the main characters.

Any way November 9, I really love the characters in this, the moment we met them I loved their thought process and how sweet they are. I can't get over some of the sarcastic lines that the characters spout sometimes, and their tragic backgrounds.

The story centres around two people who meet on November 9th every year. That's all you should really know apart from that it is a coming of age/love story. Just diving in without knowing much is the best way to read it.

As the story progresses we learn more about what happened and why to the characters, but it's not until the very end that we really learn what ties them together. Another trope in Colleen's books is the fact that one of the characters knows the other character because of the 'sad tragic event', but we don't learn how until the very end.

That's all for the non-spoilery section. Go pick it up, read it, then come back and delve into the section of spoilers.
Bye non-spoilers click Read More to continue to the spoilers (after reading the book, of course)...

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Hey Guys,

So today I'm going to be reviewing Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. I'm really excited to review this because I really enjoyed.

This book is fantastic, I love the world and the characters. It took me a while to really understand the world because it's not described really at all at the beginning. During the book more about the world is revealed, and it's really cool.
I can't tell whether this book is high or urban fantasy because the entire world feels magic but it's set in Prague. I love how it's set in Prague, most books are either set in America or England so it was something a bit different. I love Karou and her personality, her back story is touched upon but we never go into extreme depth.

If you haven't read the book then go pick it up and read it. Then come back and click read more to read my spoilery thoughts on this book.

My Bookish Boyfriends

Hey Guys,

It's been awhile since I did a main post hat was actually about books. I'm holding up well with my review strategy and it's surprisingly easy to do, but I hope you're enjoying my reviews. Also I'm going to stop attempting intros for my reviews because I always fail miserably.
Any way Today I'm going to be breaking down my top ten bookish boyfriends for you. There are however some rules; I have to have all the books in the series (if they're from a series) or every book that is out so far. And they must all be from books not TV shows. It will count down from 5 - 1 (but there are two number ones)
Lets get down to it.

First we have some honourable mentions who didn't quite make it to the final cut...

Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses, Park from Eleanor and Park, Adrian from Vampire Academy and Owen from Confess.

Now onto the actual Top 5 Bookish Boyfriends (even though there are six)...

Coming in at number 5 we have...
Finch from All the Bright Places

The thing I love about Finch is how eccentric he is. He makes me laugh and he makes me cry and I just really love him. I love how he puts Violet out of her comfort zone and there love story, so I like to just imagine I am Violet. I love his quirky attitude and his way of living.

Next at number 4 we have...
Daemon Black from The Lux Series

What I love about Daemon is how romantic he is, I loved him the most through book two (Opal) when he's buying Kat all that stuff to prove his love. I love how attached he is to Kat and the fact that he'll  do anything for her. He's also really protective, but being who he is I understand why. I also really like the fact that he's an alien, that's pretty cool.

Then at number 3 we have...
Levi from Fan girl

The thing about Levi is he is so super sweet and nice. He goes out of his way for other people, and he makes others feel special. I love how he works at Starbucks, I don't really know why but I like it. I like how he makes Cath feel special and how involved he wants to be in her past and help her now. He's also really supportive which is amazing.

Coming in at number 2 we have...
Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices

I love Will and the only reason he isn't higher up is because he's a lot older than me but that's the only problem with him. He is kind of moody and stand off-ish but once you get to know him he is wonderful and I love him. He's really bad ass and is really good at what he does (he fights demons BTW) he also really cares about Tessa and is just overall amazing. At first I preferred Jem but after book 2ish time he was my fave from the trilogy.

Now for my two number 1's we have...
Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson

The first hing I love about Percy is the fact that he was my age for a while and he's really really cool. He controls water which is so cool and he's really funny and makes me laugh, but he's also really smart and really cool. I like him because of his awesome personality and his funny and sarcastic comments in his books and he's just really bad ass and awesome and amazing.

Dorian Havilliard from Throne of Glass

The absolute main thing I love about Dorian is his personality. He's really selfless and funny and I love the way he teases Celeana, and I love how supportive he is, like he never complains, but he always thinks every thing's his fault. He isn't as bad ass as my other boyfriends but I feel for him more and I connect with his character more.

So those were my book boyfriends, Who's your number one book boyfriend? I hope you enjoyed this, or got something out of it. I can promise two reviews coming very soon which I am very excited about, two new favourite books I think.
But, I will see you soon. bye xx

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Hey Guys,

Two posts in one day. What has this new schedule done to me? I'm a blog tyrant. Once again I won't make a really long intro so you guys can read the review and be done with it so in we go.

Theres not much I can say about this as it is the second book in a series. I can only recommend that you pick up book 1 The 5th wave and give it a go.

Overall I give this book a 4/5 stars it wasn't as good as the first one but still really good.

Panic by Lauren Oliver

Hey Guys,

Welcome to my second review of 2016. It still blows my mind that it's 2016. Today I'm going to review Panic by Lauren Oliver. Hence title. No long intros let's get down to it.

So first of all this really didn't go the way I expected it to go. I had a rough idea of what it was about but it turned out the game was a lot more structured than I anticipated.
All of the characters were OK they were well written but they all seemed a bit selfish. I particularly hated Nat. I like how all the characters had very different motivation for playing the game, and the mystery and a tad scary element to it gave it an edge. It is not a scary book, though has a thrilling, heart racing feeling.

Overall I would give it 3/5 mainly because I feel towards the end it felt less thrilling and exciting.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Hey Guys,

Welcome to 2016. Wow. Anyway a new year a new blog, what do you think about my slightly new set up?
Moving on.
So as promised I am starting to review almost every book I read to keep you guys up to speed with my reading, and so you can get an idea on what I think. This one's almost an experiment to test some new stuff on so it might be a bit weird.
As I mentioned a while ago, I want to review Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo as I thoroughly enjoyed it and to bestow upon you my opinions.
Let us begin...

First of all we are greeted with this character Joost (not a spoiler it's on the first page) and I remember immediatly thinking 'oh god I hope we don't stick with this character' other than him the characters were fantastic. I didn't love any of them, but I liked the way they worked with story. I also like the various, almost forbidan, budding romances. The characters all paralleled eachother hard, but it really.
I like how we get the POV of all the characters so we get everyones backstory and a good feel for their personalities.
The heist was very different to what I expected, but I really loved how all the plans and pieces fit together to create this master plan. The twist at the end caught me by complete supprise though their was an inkling that it wouldn't go smoothly as planned.
Overall I really enjoyed it and I can'y wait to see what happens next, yes there is going to be a book two.
Click Read More to read my thoughts about the spoilery stuff but for you who haven'y read it, bye xx.
